Postdoctoral researcher (f_m_x) Geodesy, ERC Project TectoVision
The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam - GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national centre for research into the geosphere. With around 1,650 employees, we develop a sound understanding of systems and processes of the solid Earth as well as strategies and options for action to counter global change, understand natural hazards and sustainably secure energy and raw material requirements.

This Postdoc position is part of the ERC Starting Grant project “TectoVision” that began in 2022. TectoVision has the overarching aim to understand better the transient tectonic motions recorded by GNSS – your part in this project involves advancing the state of the art in GNSS processing across daily and sub-daily timescales so that tectonic transients can be better distinguished from other signals in coordinate time series. You will work on data from various global tectonic settings, interact with a team of PhD students and scientific collaborators across geodetic and geophysical research topics, and present your work at international conferences.
Your responsibilities:
- GNSS analysis with a focus on precise station coordinates
- Further development of GNSS analysis, e.g. about non-tide-dependent loads, specific environmental influences of the antenna near field, or kinematic evaluations
- Analysis of GNSS coordinate time series, e.g. about extended modeling and the determination of relevant parameters
- Contribute to the interdisciplinary research approach in ERC TectoVision with your expertise in GNSS and geodesy
- We offer you the opportunity to participate in fieldwork for the installation and maintenance of a dense GNSS station network in Greece as part of the ERC TectoVision project.
Your qualifications:
- Scientific university education and PhD in the field of geodesy, mathematics, physics or comparable
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux-based operating system environments and script languages (Perl, Python)
- Experience in the analysis of GNSS data sets with scientific software packages
- Very good command of written and spoken English
- Willingness to collaborate in an interdisciplinary and international research environment
- High motivation and personal responsibility
