Junior Policy Adviser European Affairs (f/m/d)

Society. Politics. Economy.

The German Insurance Association (GDV) is the umbrella organisation of insurers in Germany. We represent the interests of an exciting, efficient and diverse industry vis-à-vis the parliament, government and the public – at national, EU and international levels.

We are looking for a motivated Junior Policy Adviser to join our EU and International department based in Brussels, Belgium. This is a fixed-term position for 6 months, with the option to be extended. The role offers recent graduates the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in European policy, financial services regulation, and international public affairs in a dynamic environment.

The Junior Policy Adviser will join a motivated and enthusiastic team in Brussels and report to the Head of EU and International Affairs.

We are offering

  • Hands-on experience in an international, agile and fast-paced working environment with a committed and supportive group of colleagues aiming to work together to engage in the best interest of the organisation’s membership.
  • A full-time internship (38 hours per week), which includes flexible working from home options. You will be provided with the necessary technical equipment, including a mobile phone with internet access, to support remote work.
  • Additionally, we offer a comprehensive pension scheme, allowance for local transport, and meal vouchers.

What you can look forward to

  • Monitor EU political and regulatory developments affecting the insurance and financial services industry.
  • Support research and help draft briefing notes, reports, and presentations.
  • Assist in preparing engagement materials for meetings with EU institutions and stakeholders.
  • Provide internal updates on EU debates and policy initiatives relevant to the German insurance market.
  • Help organise events, meetings, and stakeholder exchanges.
  • Contribute to newsletters, monitoring reports, and internal communications.

Skills set and profile

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, e.g., in law, economics, political science, international relations, or a related field.
  • Interests: Interest in EU politics, financial services, or public policy.
  • Profile: Curious, proactive, digitally literate, and motivated to learn — able to work both independently and as part of a team. Great written and verbal communication skills.
  • Languages: Fluency in English is essential. German proficiency is a plus, but not mandatory.

Are you interested but not sure you meet all the criteria? We’d still love to hear from you! We look forward to receiving your application.
